Tell the Teacher What You Think!

Hello artists,
I will be having you each create a website for your Art and I decided to create one for myself. Here is the link:
https://sites.google.com/site/kristiansenartsparks/

I have a movie that gives a quick overview of my art and 4 galleries. At the bottom of each gallery is a comment section. Pick your favorite gallery and tell me why it is your favorite. Also tell me which piece is your favorite and why.

Artist Statement Work

Hello ladies,
It's time to start working on your Artist Statement. This should tell the viewer something about your personality, how and why you work. Here are a few introductions to get you thinking:

Artist Statement 1
I create art that makes you smile out loud. A combination of urban landscapes and pop art faces that focus on composition and color. The bright colored, bold whimsical art warms the heart and celebrates the joy brought to our lives by the diverse nature of our species.

Artist Statement 2
Venetian chandeliers, Rococco jewelry and Christmas trees are dramatic spectacles teeming with shape, color and light. As two-dimensional images, which are used in the form of distorted silhouettes, they shape-shift between identity and abstract materiality. Each form displays a distinct personality, dissolving into festoons of lights, pools of color and glittering shapes. Inspired by Tarot symmetry and Felliniesque characters, my work embodies and disembodies Glam rock decadence and occult mysticism. Toxic color, fake jewels and chunks of glitter evoke a Dionysian atmosphere that attracts and repels. Elegant, yet irreverent, my paintings and collages dare viewers to embrace their uncivilized beauty.

Artist Statement 3
My artwork takes a critical view of social, political and cultural issues. In my work, I deconstruct the American dream, fairy tales, nursery rhymes, and lullabies that are part of our childhood and adult culture. Having engaged subjects as diverse as the civil rights movement, southern rock music and modernist architecture, my work reproduces familiar visual signs, arranging them into new conceptually layered pieces.

Artist 4
I grow weary of the mundane world, and I am trying to slowly create my own through my fantasy artwork. I believe that with each piece of art I get out of my system, onto paper, and into your home I have done my part to make this place a more magical planet.

Now I want you each to start writing your artist statement. Have the words match your personality. Start with 6 words that represent you. You will then incorporate those words into your Artist Statement. Who are YOU as an Artist? This is the part to hook the reader and should reflect your personality.

Should Art be Censored????

Below is a Mixed Media Artwork by Dredd Scott called "The Blue Wall of Violence. It is an installation that addresses police brutality. It focuses on the object which the police "mistook" for a dangerous weapon when they shot an unarmed person. The project consists of several elements: On the wall are six actual FBI silhouette targets which police use for shooting practice. Protruding from each of these is a cast of an arm. In each hand is an object-wallet, house keys, 3 Musketeers bar, squeegee, etc. In front of this is a coffin and in front of the coffin are three police batons which each strike it every 10 seconds with a loud penetrating bang.

The artist was attacked in newspaper articles as a "cop-basher" and the public was outraged that taxpayer Art funds went into the exhibit. There was a call to boycott the exhibit by police officers while the African American community supported Dredd Scott's freedom of expression. What are your thoughts. Did this exhibit go too far? Was it harmful? Why or why not? What do you think of Dredd Scott's artwork?

A horse is a horse of course......

Hello Artists,
You have used the following Elements of Art-Line, Color, Form, and Value and the following Principles of Art-Contrast, Emphasis, Pattern, and Unity. The photo below is a sculpture by Deborah Butterfield.
I want you to pick 1 of the Elements and 1 of the Principles that you feel are most important to this artist. Tell me how the artist uses these Elements and Principles and why they are the most important. Then I would like you to interpret Deborah's artwork. Why would she create a horse out of scrap metal? What is she saying? How does the artwork make you feel?
Homework is due Friday, Oct. 8.

Experimentation

Hello Ladies,
Many of you have expressed interest in using photos and other images. This video shows another way to transfer an image to your structure. Also I found a very cool technique using spray paint. Check that out.

Now ladies, which of these techniques are you interested in trying? Tell me why it appeals to you. Also, are there any art media you want to work with that you have not tried yet? Colored pencils? Watercolors? Markers? Pastels? Let's get you excited for next weeks experimentation! I will check each night and respond to all posts.

Your first Printmaking & Mixed Media Blog

       Hello artists,
Welcome to your classroom blog. Here you will explore, analyze, contemplate, reflect, question, and comment about the World of Printmaking and Mixed Media. You have been introduced to a HUGE array of mixed media techniques. You have prepped your bases and seen the "latest and greatest" in the art world. I have three questions for you to answer:

1. Of all the techniques you have seen, which are you most excited to try out and tell me why? Be specific and remember the rubric for responses.

2. What question(s) do you now have after viewing everything?

3. Take the survey and tell me which genre is your favorite.

Your homework is due by Friday, September 3. Remember, if you cannot access the internet from home you may come in early and work on the Art room netbooks, work after school on the library computers, work from the computers at the town library, or hand in a hard copy.
