Hello Artists,
You have used the following Elements of Art-Line, Color, Form, and Value and the following Principles of Art-Contrast, Emphasis, Pattern, and Unity. The photo below is a sculpture by Deborah Butterfield.
I want you to pick 1 of the Elements and 1 of the Principles that you feel are most important to this artist. Tell me how the artist uses these Elements and Principles and why they are the most important. Then I would like you to interpret Deborah's artwork. Why would she create a horse out of scrap metal? What is she saying? How does the artwork make you feel?
Homework is due Friday, Oct. 8.
Shape - I feel that shape is important to the sculpture, Deborah Butterfield because its very 3-D and in order to be 3-D the shapes have to all stand and pop out.
ReplyDeleteBalance - it's important because balance tries to equal weight all around and tends to repeat some of the same shapes.
I think that Deborah Butterfield created the horse out of scrap metal so it looks more realistic. I honestly have no idea what she's trying to say. The artwork makes me feel somewhat peaceful, just because there isn't a lot of bright colors and its just calm looking.
The most important to me is form becuase she could have made it on a piece of paper but she wanted it to stand out and have a 3 demensional shape. Emphasis is another one i noticed, she didnt make anything in the backgorund or coming off the horse she just wants you to focus on that one thing. Maybe she likes to reuse things instead of wasting materials. Maybe shes saying that you can make somthing out of nothing and have it still look sweet. I think about a furtureistic mechanical horse, like out of a movie. Everytime i look at it just seems like it would just start moving. lol i dont know why.
ReplyDeletethe most important thing to me in this piece is that i think the medle is showing how tough that horses are .
ReplyDeleteI see a lot of space being used in this piece. There is positive space within how the space is created by an object. Depth is also created as some lines over-lap.
ReplyDeleteEmphasis is also noticed in this piece- the element's that attracts my eye the most is the head of the horse and the shoulder blade. Their is just something about it that makes my eye attracted to it.
