Your homework is to practice analysing a work of Art. Look at the etching below and tell me how the artist uses 4 of the Elements and 3 of the Principles of Art. Answer fully .
Homework is due Friday, Oct. 1.
The artist used a variety of Elements and Principles of art in this piece. Elements - Texture, you can tell there’s a roughness within the fur. - Value, the entire piece is filled with value which is light and dark. - Line, there are thin, thick, small, large, straight, curvy, etc all within this wolf. - Color, although it is black and white there is still an intensity of color. I personally think that the b&w makes it pops out. Principles - Balance, also known as the weight throughout a piece. The balance holds really well in the wolf because of all the lines, they all equal each other out in a sense. - Harmony, makes the piece come together to look as one therefore nothing is off in the piece, everything connects in the piece above. - Movement, which adds excitement to a piece and also makes your eye follows it in a certain direction. For me, I start with the body of the wolf and then his ears-head well zooming in on all of the details as his face comes to an end.
A well amount of elements and principles were used in this piece. - Texture, Within the fur, you are able to see the hardness in the piece. - Value, Varietys of light and dark - Line, Variety of different lines, such as thick, thin, etc. - Color, although it is black and white you are still able to see the artists perspectives. Principles - Balance, The weight between the lines and colors are equal - Harmony, everything is connected in some way - Movement, my eyes moved from the eyes, to the back heavy fur, and back to the ears.
The artist uses lines by making long thing marks to make the fox look like it has the texture of fur. They also use Shapes like for the foxes eyes and nose they have both geometric and organic shapes. It shows Value because there are darker shades of black to emphasize certain points like its ears. It also has Balance because it has repeating lines that make it look the same throughout the picture, which is also a pattern of the same kind of lines used to make the fur. It has Unity because it makes it seem like one whole design instead of two different pictures; it makes it all look complete.
the artist used maney diferent elements. lines:decriped lines, contord lines, and implied lines. value: the artist used shading. texture: the texture lookes to be rough, and some parts soft. shape:can deinatly see where the foxes body ends and the background begins. movement:my eyes travle to the face then down to that back. Emphasis: i beleve the focal point is the face. contrast: i beleve the contrast is really good, between the black fox and the white background.
