It's time to start working on your Artist Statement. This should tell the viewer something about your personality, how and why you work. Here are a few introductions to get you thinking:
Artist Statement 1
I create art that makes you smile out loud. A combination of urban landscapes and pop art faces that focus on composition and color. The bright colored, bold whimsical art warms the heart and celebrates the joy brought to our lives by the diverse nature of our species.
Artist Statement 2
Venetian chandeliers, Rococco jewelry and Christmas trees are dramatic spectacles teeming with shape, color and light. As two-dimensional images, which are used in the form of distorted silhouettes, they shape-shift between identity and abstract materiality. Each form displays a distinct personality, dissolving into festoons of lights, pools of color and glittering shapes. Inspired by Tarot symmetry and Felliniesque characters, my work embodies and disembodies Glam rock decadence and occult mysticism. Toxic color, fake jewels and chunks of glitter evoke a Dionysian atmosphere that attracts and repels. Elegant, yet irreverent, my paintings and collages dare viewers to embrace their uncivilized beauty.
Artist Statement 3
My artwork takes a critical view of social, political and cultural issues. In my work, I deconstruct the American dream, fairy tales, nursery rhymes, and lullabies that are part of our childhood and adult culture. Having engaged subjects as diverse as the civil rights movement, southern rock music and modernist architecture, my work reproduces familiar visual signs, arranging them into new conceptually layered pieces.
Artist 4
I grow weary of the mundane world, and I am trying to slowly create my own through my fantasy artwork. I believe that with each piece of art I get out of my system, onto paper, and into your home I have done my part to make this place a more magical planet. Now I want you each to start writing your artist statement. Have the words match your personality. Start with 6 words that represent you. You will then incorporate those words into your Artist Statement. Who are YOU as an Artist? This is the part to hook the reader and should reflect your personality.
Quiet
ReplyDeleteImaginitive
Thoughtful
Energetic

Instinctive
As an artist I work quietly. I’m very thoughtful of what I create, and why I create a piece. I usually decide on what I’m going to make and I go into themes rather than abstract. I also use my surrounding to help me figure out what I will make. If I watch a show or read a book I create something within that theme of it. To make sure my artwork is not boring I use my imagination to try to create interesting things with my themes. I usually build things upon a cartoonish aspect rather than a realistic. I’m instinctively better at cartoons than a realistic drawing or painting. I like making things for people instead of for myself, I like seeing people happy by things I make, which gives me the drive I need to create my artwork.
As an artist I tend to be open minded toward suggestions, stubborn with how my pieces turn out, talkative as if trying to express voice within my artwork, my pieces tend to be friendly and more positive then negative. Also, I try to add some uniqueness here and there in my work.
ReplyDeleteMy artwork is unique, and very creative. I like to play with an energetic theme, so my artwork is not dull, but also not too kind. I hope the energetic feeling is expressed in my artwork, enjoy!
ReplyDeleteRaeney,
ReplyDeleteYour 6 words are perfect for you. Use the word imaginative when you talk about viewing movies and books to get your inspiration. Friendly and Instictive can be included when you talk about creating for those you care for. Figure out a way to use the words Quiet and Energetic which are important words for you and your work.
Sara,
ReplyDeleteI want to know more about how these words can be joined with your artwork; how can it be stubborn, positive, open minded, talkative, friendly, and unique. Is it your colors? Are they bright and bold showing your happy friendliness? Does your talkative streak come out in words or rhythmic accents that speak to the viewer?
Kim,
ReplyDeletePlayful, Energetic,Unique, and Expressive are words I understand and I now need to have you tell me how these relate to your work. Are the colors energetic and why? What makes your artwork playful? I also need to know what you mean by "not too kind". What does that mean and how does it apply to your art?

When people look at my art work I want them to see the other side of me .i like to use a lot of color. Sometimes my art work reflects the mood I am in. I am the type of artist that if I art does not look like I wanted it to look then I start over Intel it looks like I want. It takes me a while to actually figure out what I am going to create. I try to create some things that are colorful but I also want to bring out my inner self. I like to bring a lot of pitchers in my art work
